Movie Ish

I saw I Love You, Man today. I thought it was pretty awesome. Jason Segel and Paul Rudd are really good in the supporting roles of the Apatow movies and it was time to throw them their own movie. Oh yea, the girl Rashida Jones (who is the real life daughter of Quincy Jones) is gorgeous too. Overall? B+

Are movie theaters owned by the government? Man those military commercials are there in every single preview. Navy, Army, Marines, whatever. I guess we need the troops but I usually hit the movies to forget about shitty shit and before I see any movie they remind me we are at war, kind of depressing. "You. The guy stuffing your face with popcorn and probably just roasted a blunt. You are an army of one." Whaat bro? No Im not.

Man I have something to say about movie trailers and previews these days. OK most of them reveal way too much, it blows. They go through the entire arc and show the best parts. Have someone tell you the ending and watch the trailer, same thing as seeing it. It hurts comedies the most. They load it with funny highlights that are usually the best parts so it's aleast some percentage ruined. It's fully ruined if those were the only funny parts and it's 30-50% ruined if it's legit good like I Love You Man. I'm going to start avoiding trailers for movies I really want to see.

Some previews can still kill though. If it has a good score it has a much better chance and the real key is to give you a little but leave you wanting more. I felt like a chooch but honestly the Star Trek preview got me today because it was well done. See they dont even show Spock or the trek uniforms until late into the preview because they knew if it was star trek from the beginning I wouldn't have given it a shot. They know they need people like me, young white males, to see that movie for it to succeed. The die hard Trekkies will see it regardless ya know?

  2. Well Im a strict grader. I loved the movie. I would reserve A's for my favorite's all time. Anchorman is probably the only comedy I would give an A to. This was funny as hell.
