Draft Day 2 Update... Hobbs Traded

Just wanted to keep you guys posted here on this day 2 of the draft. Belichick was up to his usual pwnage again this morning turning two 3rd round picks into two 2010 2nd round picks. Thats ridic for the Pats. We couldn't have 2314 rookies make the team this year anyway so we bump back and upgrade. 2010 is also a much better projected draft class and 2nd round talent is the best bargain.

The Patriots did make a couple picks and I'll get to them in a second. I just heard they traded Hobbs for two 5th round picks. This is something that you can understand when you remember it is a contract year and his play was pretty bad last season. It also saves 2.2m on the cap this year. Like I said yesterday too, there is a lot of CB depth right now. I love Butler and think he probably plays nickel right out of the gate.

Pick 83 Brandon Tate/WR UNC - This pick is another smart one by BB. Tate is an explosive return man who was having a good year at WR before blowing out his knee in October. So what you probably see happen is the Pats start Tate on PUP (physically unable to perform) list and save a roster spot. You either see him late in the year or they IR him and you have a high ceiling guy for 2010 to replace Galloway. This kid is nasty if hes healthy. A first round talent but he slipped because of the knee and because he tested positive for pot at the combine.

Pick 97 Tyrone McKenzie/LB USF - A very athletic linebacker that will play inside LB in the Patriots 3-4 defense. I like this pick too. Check out the video. This kid looks like Mayo a little bit in terms of build. I know it sounds like I like every pick this year but thats because I think I understand almost all of them, including the trades. Belichick knows what hes doing and hes better at this than pretty much everyone else in the world.

Pick 123 Richard Ohrnberger/OG Penn St- "Ohrnberger is a mauler who plays with an aggressive attitude and works very hard to finish his blocks. However, he's limited athletically..." Sounds like a beast and who needs extra athletic guards? Pats use bulldozers.

Pick 170 George Bussey/OT Louisville- Starting to get a little boring now. Bussey seems like a marginal player but obviously they like him. Expect him to be on the practice squad.

And oh yea, I just heard that Brady in the strength tests tested higher in everything than he has in any other year. Thats 5.5 months after surgery too, dece. Pats are gonna roll teams again, cant wait.

  1. Pats did work at the draft. Good bye Hobbs, you really didn't get any better since your rookie year at corner. I like the kid from UCOnn. Handful of other guys I liked. Would have liked to seen Ian Johnson come into Pats mini camp as an undraft FA.
