I got the idea for this post a couple of weeks ago when I was watching a video of Charles Hamilton argue with Joe Budden about who was a better MC, LL Cool J, or Rakim. I think it was Rakim, it might be Kurupt, or KRS One, so my bad for being ignorant. I have to admit when I first started getting into hip-hop the giants were Dr. Dre, Snoop, Tupac, and Biggie. I'm not really an old school rap head. Not saying the shit wasn't good, because I'm sure it was, just saying I don't know it as well as I should.
Anyways...I'm saying LL Cool J is a little bit underrated in the minds of most hip-hop fans. Joe Buddens put LL as one of his top MCs of all time, and the more I thought about it, the more I at least took his side over Sonic's (Charles Hamilton alter ego, wish I was ill enough to have one....other than J-man which I created for myself). I remember one of the first CDs I ever had was the single of "Mama said knock you out" I used to bump that track over and over when I was like 8 for real, and I'm saying its still fire.
So this is my tribute to LL over the years....just a couple of songs to check out. The first being of course
This next one I almost forgot about until I started youtubing his shit, and I remember just about every second of the video. Shit I might have gotten my first erection to this one (too much info????). I remember going over to my boy Sal's house way back because I didn't have MTV, used to just go over there and watch MTV....and mix in a shot or two from Pap Longo's liquur cabinet when we were 12.
Used to sing this shit in middle school...probably thinking about girls I liked / had crushes on. Which usually meant I would hit them or make fun of them...oddly enough not much has changed in terms of my game.
Fast forward to the recent part of my life...now im partying at college, going out to bars and bobbing my head to this shit
Now to literally like a month or so ago when I hear the finished version of this song with 50....LL is still killing...still looks the same...still a beast man. The dude deserves his credit.
I'm out for now...feels good to get a rap post out there, haven't done a good one in a while.
ONE.
