2 Live Stews

I've been doing podcasts of talk radio shows lately on the ipod. I just download the previous days podcast, throw an earbud in, and its commercial free smooth sailing on my commute. 3 hour shows are only about 90 minutes without the commercials. For you guys who enjoy sports talk radio, you know how brutal the commercial breaks can be, so its pretty wild to double your efficiency.

If you decide to try this out, I give a 5 star rating recommendation to the Two Live Stews on Sporting News Radio. I really love these guys. They make WEEI, well the Big Show atleast, just look like trash. You know how most of the people our age like Mike Holley the best out of the WEEI hosts? Its because hes young, smart, likes the same music we do, etc. We can relate to him and hes a cool dude. Well the Stews are like Mike Holley in terms of hip hop, smart, fresh take on the issues, unconventional, etc. The Stewart brothers are funnier than Holley though. They crack me up. They also have incredible chemistry being brothers.

Ryan Stewart, the younger brother, was an All American safety at GA Tech and went on to play for the Detroit Lions. Doug Stewart played sports in college but he is a former sports agent and mortgage lender. Ryan was a ladies man up until he got married recently and doug is the family man. They get into arguments that will have you in stitches, as opposed to the headache inducing arguments of The Big Show on WEEI. The Stews style is more like talk you would have in a basement with your buddies or at the barbershop. Like The Big Show will be ripping callers and explaining things over and over, while the stews are having a blast and discussing things like Fitz vs Moss, or Fitz vs Calvin Johnson, or what would happen if Vick was the Steelers their QB last year, and the stews call people out if they aren't keeping it real. Its my favorite style sports talk.

So thats my recommendation for the two live stews. They also have won radio on air talent of the year awards in 2004. They are cool dudes and Ryan is a former athlete so they get really good guests. At 245 everyday they do an awesome celeb news thing. The show airs in Atlanta, but they do mostly national stories. Actually I have been following the Falcons and Hawks more since I've been a fan of the show now that I think of it. Just go to itunes store and search for two live stews, then click the sporting news radio one and your good to go, free downloads of the days 2livestews for your commute. Or if you are on your computer between 1 and 4 in the afternoon on weekdays, you can just go to Radio Time, search for the zone, and listen to the stews live that way.

As for WEEI, I respect the ratings and success, but those shows blow. Im generalizing the station but I mean the afternoon drive show The Big Show. They just beat topics into the ground with no sophistication. You probably just said who wants sophistication in a sports talk radio show right? Well I do. Why would I listen to The Big Show when all I get out of it is finding out what the local sports stories are. I never learn anything from those guys. Its just guys yelling and ripping callers. They just pound the conventional and consensus opinions. Its also 75% yelling.

Ordway called games with Johnny Most for 13 years, the guy is a legend in Boston. The premise of Ordway keeping things together and having sports writers as cohosts to bring the inside information is a good one, but it just doesn't work for me. Ordway now makes a million per year as the host and his ego has grown with his paycheck. He seems like a nice enough guy, but the fresh insight just isn't there, hes nothing special. And the writers as cohosts usually suck. You listen to them and realize that some people dont think outside the box no matter how close they are to the game.

  1. Ordway sucks and is basically a non talent. Because he sat next to J. Most he thinks it gives him the right to scream over anyone who has a legit argument. He once said Jerry Stackhouse was a top 10 player in the NBA (it was his best year and he might have been top 20, maybe) and I stayed on hold for 45 minutes and never got through to call him out. He also said the Jays would win the Al East the last 5 seasons, and that the Pats would wait until the last second to franchise Cassel (They did it within the first 5 minutes I think). By the way, he kind of looks like Pat the Patriot. Oh, and he isn't even a good guy really. Most people don't know that his current wife was an intern at eei who he left his first wife for. Good looks.
