Music Monday Part 1

The Kid Is Backkkkkkkkkkkk. Some of you might not like this but I'm going to start off with something different...there is nothing wrong with something a little serious, and I've been feeling Bow lately.

Bow Wow - "Regret Part 2"

Annnnd just because I sweat Ne-Yo...

50 Cent feat. Ne-Yo - "Baby By Me"
Am the I only one that thinks 50 can still come back with a CD relevant to rap??? Trust me I'm not saying "Get Rich Or Die Tryin'" qaulity...but at least like Massacre style. I don't know what his deal is. (Balla I know you will comment on this post I'm interested on what you have to say).

Part 2 in a bit.

  1. Haha I didn't even really read the little post section and started to comment anyway.

Basically, 50 Cent's CD release ("Before I Self Destruct," due out 11/17/2009 as of today) will say a lot about where he's at as an artist.

I mean, listen to the clip you just posted. It's not a BAD song by any stretch of the imagination. But why would I ever want to listen to this? 50 Cent's first CD, which he'd been probably waiting his whole life to release, was directed toward everyone. Girls loved it, guys loved it; pretty much, top to bottom, that shit was fiiiyahhhhh.

But now, I feel like he makes music that's pretty much only directed at one audience. And that audience is women and maybe I guess teenage dudes. The only problem is his first CD combined with his mixtapes (and, really to some extent, a little of the Massacre) had less of this gender-centric tone. Everyone could appreciate it.

Plus, if 50 is going to make a song like "Baby By Me," wouldn't I rather have someone else do it? That's probably what hurts him the most -- he doesn't rap or make music in a style that fits him as an artist.

I read a quote from him before Curtis came out saying he "only wants to make hits." I mean, OK, but being a great artist that people respect means you have to make songs that aren't designed for the radio. Listening to an album with 18 radio-single-type songs is boring. If I wanted to listen to that, I'd just turn on Jam'n 94.5 (well not really, since I don't live there anymore, but you get the idea).

Basically, if I was Dre and Em, I would tell 50 to go back to his roots. His movie was a bust, his videogame was a bust, his last CD got outsold by Kanye West. And it's because he's not making stuff similar to the bangers off "Get Rich or Die Tryin'." After a while, people give up on you.

So, my answer is, I don't think 50 can make another relevant album as long as he stays in this pop phase; if for no other reason than there are 10 other artists at least that make better pop music than he does.
