Wolfie's Rundown - Profile Style

This post is going to be a colossal version of my old AIM inf0/profile. People used to enjoy those so I feel like I owe it to the original readers to follow up.

Random
-Here is a ridiculous story that I haven't told many people. A few years back, on a dark and stormy night (not really stormy) I was hanging out with a different kind of crew than my normal squeaky clean friends. Guys that I hadn't seen in a while. I'll keep the names generic. So people are partying after a night at the bar. Everyone is swillin beers and there are some other drugs going around. I look over in the kitchen and see Johnny Doe destroy a line of blow. Then my other friend Tim Smith is right next to me on the couch and he blasts down a rail of booger sugar himself. Im hammered, wondering what the hell is going on. It feels like I'm backstage with guns and roses, minus the groupies and instruments. So next I throw out this fun fact to the coke heads. Did you guys know that cocaine was what they used to use as a topical anaesthesia before novacaine? Johnny Doe goes "I guess I could see that, it does make you numb". So I google it to make sure Im remembering it right. "Yup they used to use it on eye surgeries too" I read. The next thing I said was pretty ridiculous... "John, you should put some coke in your eyeball and see if you get fucked up". Then to my surprise he answers with "F-ck it. I'll do it if you put it in for me", incredible. So next thing you know Im standing above my buddy, whos high as a kite and on his knees, and Im lining up cocaine to sprinkle into his eyeball that hes holding wide open. So I drop the powder bomb onto his moist eye, direct hit, and he immediately goes "AHHHHHHHH!!!" flipping out holding his eye. At this point Im dying laughing at both the sheer absurdity of the situation and the fact that John is in a ton of pain that will wear off in a few minutes. A couple minutes later we examine John's eye and it looks like it belongs to a zombie while the other one is normal. The thing is completely snaggled and dilated, I was geeking out at this thing. John tells me he cant feel it at all and tells me to poke it. I poke his eye and he doesn't flinch then I give his eye lid a power flick and he doesn't flinch either. Thats about it for the story though. Its nothing to be proud of but not everyone can say they've put coke in their friends eyeball ya know?

-on a lighter note, craisins are awesome. I recommend putting them on your cereal, craisin bran anyone?

-The Stimulus package is no joke people. We should probably be keeping up with it because its so significant and unheard of before. When I want to understand an economic or business issue, the first thing I do is see what Warren Buffet has to say about it and then go from there.

-You might be wondering who that is licking my face in the picture above. I'm not exactly sure though because its not me. Its a picture of Yahoo Fantasy Sports expert Brad Evans. I was trying to research for the big draft the other day and see a sweet lookalike of me. Tell me if you agree. (get outta here if you dont see it, thing is so me, maybe a little bit of zim mixed in?)

Blog
-Williams American Idol post was really good. I need to catch up. That show is pretty unique in the fact that the auditions and actual competition are completely different shows and both get great ratings.

-
Im going to try and do more of these grab bag / AIM info / random thoughts posts. This one is going to be long because I have a lot built up, but Im sure you understand...I am using this to tie up loose ends and ideas but I also wouldn't mind responding to comments and questions in my posts. Also going to try and do more comedy and stories because I know my material have been sports and more sports. Retta was telling me to bring back some old classic stories and not to worry if some readers have heard em before.

Entertainment
-LOST was awesome last night. I think I said it last time but it didn't just break into my all time shows, it kicked the door in. Ive never looked forward to like I do with this one. I almost get nervous because I know they are going to blow me away with something crazy every week. Its very unique, absurd, and awesome.

-I had a nice slacker day today so I watched a couple movies, Jaws 2 and The Matrix. J2 is good because its funny to watch how much it sucks. I hadn't seen it in years so I completely forgot about the part where Jaws eats a helicopter. I was dyin laughin as Jaws sinks and then pretty sure eats the chopper with the pilot inside as ppl are watching and screaming. As for the Matrix? Forgot how awesome it was. Such a good idea and really well done. The original is definitely the best.

-Oscars are coming up on Sunday. Looks like Slumdog is the heavy favorite for best picture. Also note that Ledger is an absolute lock for supporting actor. Hes -1000 on the sportsbook.

Sports
-I somehow missed when Weezy was on PTI a couple weeks ago, even when I had it marked down on the calendar. Click that link and you can see all his answers consolidated. The performance was pretty akward as you can imagine but I think Weezy was actually serviceable. You could tell he took it somewhat serious. I could listen to his doped up take on life or sports every day.

Here is Weezy on Manny Ramirez, "People in LA need to calm themselves down. Manny Ramirez is going to end up in a Dodger uniform. He's gonna take the three year deal at some point because there is nothing else on the table. LA fans are getting hyper in the mailbag, but they don't need to worry. And like I said, if he goes to the Yankees I'll record my anti-Manny song for the next album and it will be the best song on the album."

And on Alex Rodriguez (Actually solid), "If I were his manager I wouldn't know what to tell him other than to play his butt off. Hell, I'd probably just tell him to retire at this point. You know there's something else that's gonna come out, and he better retire and sell his book before it comes out and he turns into Canseco. But he's not going to retire so the one thing I would tell him to do right now is focus on being a better teammate. He needs to bust his ass for his team and hope they have his back because it's going to be a long season."

-The 50 second pause in the middle of a sentence before Rodriguez uttered thank you to his teammates "to my teammates.....(50 secs elapse for forced dramatic effect)........thank you" in the press conference made me want to barf. Wow that was terrible and painful to watch. Thats the thing that turned me away from the Rod. I was on his side until then but hes just too much of a tool. Don't try to play me bro. Hes gonna keep getting put on the flambe and rightfully so because hes not telling the whole truth. A-Rod is a mental midget. I don't think he even understands how risky it is to spill so many details mixed in with with half truths. The more complex a lie is, the easier it is to trip yourself up and easier it is for a good cross examiner to tear your shit up. I think its only a matter of time before he gets Frost-Nixon'ed.

-Following up on Dumars taking Darko... Detroit was filthy at the time and didnt need anyone in particular so they took a chance on the raw euro kid who could be the next Dirk. In the process they passed on Melo and Bosh, both number 1 picks in a draft that didn't include the basketball Jesus. Dumars dropped the ball with the pick but I think they also blew it in terms of development. Darko never broke into the culture there. He couldn't relate to black america, seriously, guy is a goofy eastern european. They never let him in the inner circle because they didn't need him to save the franchise like most top 2 draft picks. Bosh is outgoing (and black). Cant you see him going to that team as a 6th man, working with the vets, buddying up with Sheed, and winning them an extra title as a starter down the line? Check out an excerpt from an old interview with Darko I found. Read it and you'll know what I mean.

Question: What has the coaching staff worked on with you in particular?

Darko Milicic: Everything, everything. Play one-on-one, and all this stuff. Post-up moves.

Question: Is practice heping? What is focused on with you in practice?

Darko Milicic: Playing five-on-five, but there's not a lot of practice, because there's a lot of games. We don't have a lot of practice like five-on-five, it's just working on shooting, because the guys, they're tired. And that's why I don't have a chance to play against these top guys.

-Chris Paul hasn't got the attention he deserves this season because we are so enamored with the collision course LeBron and Kobe seem to be on, and rightfully so. Just make sure you consider or acknowledge the fact that CP3 might be the most efficient PG of all time. Read that last sentence again, whoa. Then balance CP's spectacular play so far with the play of a big man about the same age in the other conference. Dwight Howard isn't just playing well, hes dominating. The young talent in the league is so impressive. I don't see the Celtics beating the Cavs to be honest, but if they do we need to finish out another title quick. The window is closing.

-Also, this was awesome.

The Raja Bell Watch...

After the Celtics “trade” of Sam Cassell for a future protected 2nd-round pick to the Kings in exchange for Sam I Am and a half a mill, we now have about an hour and a half to see if the Celts do anything before the trading deadline.

What the Cassell deal did was effectively save the Celts about $800,000 of the cap while freeing up a roster spot (they have 2 now that Tony Allen is on injured reserve).

The No. 1 pursuit is Charlotte guard and former Boston University star Raja Bell. While the Celts have shown interest in the only current NBA player from BU, reports indicate that they may not have the chips to get a deal done. Boston really has nobody to trade outside of JR Giddens and a draft pick, both of which won’t pry someone like Bell.

What is more interesting is the fact that New Orleans’ trade of Tyson Chandler to Oklahoma for Chris Wilcox and Joe Smith was vetoed by the Thunder over concerns of Chandler’s big toe (weird because the doctor who looked at him was the doctor who performed the tow surgery last year when the Hornets were in OK: “Yea, turns out I did a sucky job.”) This is relevant because now Smith – highly coveted by Danny Ainge and the Celts’ brass – is now back on the market. And while, again, we may not see a trade happen, if Smith does get bought out, he’d like to come to the Green.

Also, Calvin Booth was just traded to the Kings along with Rashad McCants with Sheldon Williams and Bobby Brown headed to the Timberwolves. Booth has played just one game for Minny this year and he, like Cassell, should be waived by the Kings soon after his acquisition. Booth, for some reason, is another target of Ainge.

And finally, Stephon Marbury. Starbury won’t be bought out before the trade deadline, but there are reports that he still will get cut by the Knicks in time to join a team for the playoff run. If he is finally bought out, look for him to come to Boston.

We end with this sweet video of KG “dressing down” one of my fav gimmicks, Craig Sager:

Thursday Steal

Alright this weeks steal is pretty solid...and also if I didn't already have these 3 movies I would be all over it.

3 DVDs...Superbad, Blades of Glory, and Team America, all for $5.99. Now there is a $5 dollar shipping fee, but that still puts it at under $4 a movie. Superbad alone is worth the $11 trust me.

Click HERE to grab this deal. Remember it only lasts until midnight.

DISCLAIMER: After second look this site looks to be having what they call a WOOT off...which means there will be ill deals all day here. So if this one runs out keep checking the WOOT site for more ill deals.

Beast Alert

Was talking to my boy Ross and he showed me this clip of San Jose St. Defensive Tackle Jarron Gilbert. This dude is a freak...6'5 290, squats and dead lifts 635 pounds and also runs a 4.7 40. He is the best player in the upcoming NFL draft that you probably don't know much about (unless your Richie). Pretty sure I wouldn't even know how to even begin to try to do this....

Thanks to Ross for the clip and info...hope the U can bounce back from the rough start they are having in Florida. If not at least it's not snowing there...ya dick bags.

Veteran Presence for Pats?

Some interesting NFL veterans being cut or requesting trades these days. Here’s a few I could see with the Pats:

Fred Taylor

Taylor is someone who could replace Lamont Jordan as a bruising downhill runner to compliment Laurence Maroney. And as we saw the last two years, the health of Maroney and Sammy Morris is always questionable. One more running back can never hurt, especially one who admittedly wants to play for a contender.

Could he take a lesser role in New England? Well, he didn’t have much of a role with Jacksonville in 2008, with 143 carries for 556 yards. The 3.9 yards per carry is nothing spectacular, but part of that onus is on the Jaguars’ line, which only gave Maurice Jones-Drew enough room for 4.2 ypc and had David Garrard on behind most of the season.

A one-year deal in the $2-3 million range doesn’t seem out of the question.

Chris McAlister

McAlister spent most of last season rehabbing a knee injury away from his team, a fact that no doubt irked coach John Harbaugh and contributed to his release.

The Ravens’ decision to cut McAlister had more to do with money -- they saved $8 million by cutting him loose – and less with his play. McAlister is only 31 and he still has it. The three-time Pro Bowler recorded three interceptions in just five games last season before suffering his season-ending knee injury in the sixth game against the Colts.

He’s tall for Pats’ corner standards (6-foot-1) and he can bump the receiver or run with some of the best. There are injury concerns, as McAlister has missed 18 games the past two years, but that’s what I hope would bring him at a discount.

Is there anything the Pats need more than an affordable, physical veteran corner? I think not.

Tony Gonzalez

People always laugh when I say this one, but he wants out of Kansas City, the Chiefs need a QB, the Pats have a QB, the Chiefs have the No. 3 pick in the draft, Pats don’t want a Top 5 pick. A logical trade scenario would involve Cassel for Tony G and the early 2nd-round pick.

Could this work? Why not? A good-receiving tight end would do wonders for the Pats’ passing attack. Plus he’s a Madden and fantasy favorite of mine.

DP's Motivation

Rob Bradford talked to Pedroia the other day and got the scoop on his off season motivation. The answer he got was pretty different than what I expected. I would have guessed that the writer in Texas who left him off the MVP ballot would be the thing driving him. He loves proving people wrong, we all know that. But that wasnt what is driving him, he has been mostly motivated by... Well, I'll copy paste it right after I bring up a couple other sweet Pedroia moments. First, remember the security guard story?

He was stopped at the players' entrance at Coors Field in Denver during last year's World Series against the Colorado Rockies. The security guard didn't believe Pedroia was a player and shooed him away. Pedroia seethed. He produced his players' ID card, and the security guard questioned whether it was legitimate.

Pedroia, unable to contain his rage any longer, dropped a subtle reminder, much to the delight of Red Sox manager Terry Francona, who tells the story.

"He says, 'You don't know who I am? You really don't know who I am' " Francona says. " 'Ask Jeff f-ckin Francis who the fu-k I am. I'm the guy who hit a bomb off him and ended their f-ckin season."

How about how Jerry Remy stunk? or when he asked Brian Roberts before a game if he brought his glasses for the laser show during batting practice.? Meaning he sprays line drives everywhere.

So what is driving DP this season? How about the guy who first gave us the "Wooo!", Ric Flair, and a DVD of greatest moments. For some reason this absolutely cracks me up.

About four weeks into his offseason workouts, Dustin Pedroia had an epiphany.

He had already won a Gold Glove and American League MVP while adding a $40 million contract to the mix. But, as Pedroia is often quick to acknowledge, every little bit of motivation goes a long way.

“I watched a lot of motivational movies,” he said. “But what was huge was when about four weeks into my workout, one of my buddies downloaded (professional wrestling icon) Ric Flair’s greatest moments. So we were sitting there watching it and Rick Flair goes, ‘If you want to be the best, you’ve got to beat the best.’ I’m sitting there thinking, ‘That’s my calling. That stuff was awesome.’ That put me over the top.”

Pedroia and Dodgers OF Andre Ethier are college teammates and friends that work out together at Athletes Performance Institute in Arizona. After this epiphany they now wear Hulk Hogan shirts that say "Hangin and Bangin on Venice Beach" and pump each other up with different famous wrestling sayings and slogans.

Urban Dictionary
is a real good website if you haven't used it. Its a dictionary but made like a wiki and full of slang. Its good for jokes, real info, white ppl wanting to understand slang bang, everything. This next definition is pretty disgusting but its creative enough that Im going to post it as the UD Definition of the day.

Double Dunk:
1. Double Dunking is the act of taking a crap while sitting upon another person's lap who in turn is also taking a crap using the bottoms legs as a seat and letting the material fall through the space between the bottoms legs. While on the toilet, there is ample room in front of the person on the bottom. This extra space can be utilized by a second person in order to increase defecating efficiency. Variations of the double dunk include the "French Double Dunk", where the top person faces the bottom person.

2. When one person sits on the toilet to go number two and another person sits on top of their lap to do the same. The top person must do their best to aim for the small space available that people normally just use to look down at their nuts, peer into the water, or sometimes spit.

Ex. Hey man all the stalls are taken, let's double dunk real quick

NBA - Young Money

45/19/8 blocks for Howard tonight? Jesus. Thats domination. What the hell has gotten into these kids lately? That looks like a line for Blake Griffin (beast himself) against a sub .500 college squad. Superman was in the building tonight.

47 points for Durant tonight. A little bit of confidence after he won horse this weekend? He has been on fire over the last month. This kid is still so young. Theres just no doubt that he is going to be unstoppable over the next 10 years as he keeps improving the jumper and some go to post moves. Hes just too long and too good. Benjamin Button... I mean Oden is a nice kid, but Durant should have been drafted first.

The league has such a fantastic crop of young talent. Good god I love it. We have been lucky to see a lot of amazing talent enter the league and pan out over the last 5 years. The NBA's popularity is really dependent on its superstars. Remember how noone really cared about the NBA in the late 90's and early 2000's? Well there was a direct correlation with that lull and the lack of big time talent coming in after Duncan in 1997. Number 1 overall picks after Duncan were Olowakandi, Elton Brand, Kenyon Martin, Kwame Brown, and Yao. Are you kidding me? Wish I was born as a future 7 footer. And Im not playing it up either, there werent even any successful top 5 picks in that dark age. Kenyon Martin made an all star game but other than that, noone in the lottery in 2000 even starts in the NBA right now, unreal.

Things have changed drastically since Melo won a title at Syracuse and LeBron's high school games were being televised. The rosters at the all star game this weekend were just stacked with young stars. There is a handful of 10+ year veterans like Pierce, Duncan, Shaq, Kobe, KG, etc, and the rest is just loaded with 22-27 yr olds. Thats why there is such a large number studs hitting free agency around 2010. Lebron, Stoudemire, Wade, Bosh, Dirk, Joe Johnson, Redd, Manu, McGrady, Rip, Ray, Stephen Jackson, Chandler, Josh Howard, Jermaine O'Neal, TJ Ford, and more. Better clear some cap space for the Summer of Lebron, whole leagues gettin flipped.

I flip on Sportscenter tonight and see Howard and Durant just crushing it. Think about the Darko draft being about 5 and a half years ago so those cats are in their prime. Lebron went first and rightfully so as his potential knows no limits. Darko 2nd to Detroit which is that much worse when you see the next 3 selections are all franchise players. Melo is a beast. Bosh made the leap to a top 10 player this year. Wade is being overshadowed by Kobe/Bron but he is the third or fourth best player in the NBA.

Im not sure if you've heard of PER, or player efficiency rating, but its a stat that John Hollinger came up with to show how good a player is on a per minute basis. "PER takes into account positive accomplishments, such as field goals, free throws, 3-pointers, assists, rebounds, blocks and steals, and negative ones, such as missed shots, turnovers and personal fouls. The formula adds positive stats and subtracts negative ones through a statistical point value system. The rating for each player is then adjusted to a per-minute basis so that, for example, substitutes can be compared with starters in playing time debates. It is also adjusted for the team's pace. In the end, one number sums up the players' statistical accomplishments for that season." I don't buy into it as the be all and end all because it falls short on defense, but it is pretty impressive. The score is based on 15.00 as league average. It gets a lot of attention as the best measure of a players performance, and some of this years numbers are off the charts. The top 4 are James, CP, Wade, and Howard (young blood). Lebron James PER of 32 is the best of the last 30 years and only matched by a couple of Jordan's seasons. Same thing with CP3's 30. Its one of the best PER's of all time for a point guard.

The NBA is stacked with young talent. Lets hope the Celts can steal another one before LeBron puts on more muscle and the big three get arthritis.

Fun Fact: 24 year old LeBron James is criticized for his outside shot that manages to go in 32% of the time. Well when Michael Jordan was 24 years old he had played 4 years in the NBA and attempted 189 three pointers and only 16% of them went in. So Michael Jordan scored 31 three pointers through age 24 while LeBron is at 580 and counting.

A Tribute to....Hot Girl Wednesday

Oh how I love Wednesday's....the day that I scour my sources to bring you guys (and girls maybe) a new babe to get you through the week. This week I bring you Alice Greczyn who is on some show called Privileged. I have no idea what it is about or even what channel it is on, all I know is that this chick is COT. COT = Cute/Hot, the single best combination that any girl can bring to the table. Now most likely since she is an actress this girl is a complete B, but her look is definately COT.

These girls are the most dangerous breed out there, because with just one look they will command you to do everything for them. There is something about an incredibly, outwardly hot girl that just doesn't give them the same appeal to me. I know that sounds a bit risky, I think it is something to do with the fact that they think they can use their outright hotness to dominate guys....these COT girls though, they look more innocent, and therefore would dominate poor dudes like myself.

Happy Hump Day everybody....

It's Kanye's Right to Speak in Third Person...

I don't think he is narcissistic at all. Honestly, I wish I could love something, anything as much as Kanye West loves himself. Although he talks a lot about himself during this interview with DETAILS magazine, he still leaves all my questions unanswered. Do all celebrities become space cadets at the pinnacles of their success? Is he a functioning human being? Does he have inner monologue? Is this is way of coming out of the closet (I mean cmon' DETAILS magazine is fine, but then the whole rainbow issue and then the bisexual porn comment)? Is he ever going to revert back to the semi-normal rapper that I used to enjoy listening to?

My favorite quote: "The mirror bores me."
